Rear-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering describe different things, and the Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica combines both. That distinction is the key to understanding the car more clearly than its position in a model hierarchy. One system determines where propulsion goes; the other changes the orientation of the rear wheels to influence the vehicle's response.
Lamborghini unveiled the Tecnica in April 2022, with its North American debut in New York on April 12. It remains useful to revisit the engineering on its own terms rather than describe an established model as a new arrival.
Start with the driven wheels
The Tecnica sends drive to the rear wheels. Its naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 produces 640 cv, approximately 631 mechanical horsepower, at 8,000 rpm. Lamborghini's model description also gives 565 Nm of torque, approximately 417 lb-ft, at 6,500 rpm.
Those figures explain the engine's high-revving emphasis, but they do not tell you whether the car suits your roads. For that, pay attention to throttle response, low-speed tractability and how readily the transmission follows your choices. A short drive need not approach maximum output to reveal useful differences in character.
The rear wheels also help steer
Lamborghini describes two electromechanical actuators managing the rear steering axle. The system is intended to improve agility at lower speeds and stability at higher speeds, with behavior coordinated to the selected driving mode. This is a different function from sending power to the front axle.
During an ordinary test drive, notice how the car positions itself through gentle direction changes and how much effort it takes to maneuver. Do not try to isolate the rear-steering system by provoking the car. Its operation is integrated with the rest of the chassis, so a technician's diagnostic assessment is more informative than a dramatic road test.
The Tecnica also has direct steering and Lamborghini Integrated Vehicle Dynamics, or LDVI. The manufacturer describes LDVI as coordinating the dynamic systems using driver input and vehicle conditions. That coordination is part of the model's identity, rather than a collection of unrelated electronic extras.
Cooling belongs in the discussion
In its original engineering introduction, Lamborghini identifies revised Performance Traction Control, a specific suspension setup and new brake-cooling management. These changes broaden the story beyond the engine shared with the STO.
If a car has seen circuit use, ask for maintenance records that explain how it was prepared and serviced afterward. Track use by itself does not establish poor condition. The useful evidence is what was inspected, replaced and documented, assessed by a qualified specialist.
Likewise, a road-only history does not replace inspection of brakes, tires, underside and any repaired bodywork. Evaluate the example rather than treating its owner's description as a mechanical conclusion.
Measure the garage with the mirrors included
The factory brochure lists width as 1,933 mm without mirrors and 2,236 mm including them, approximately 76.1 and 88.0 inches. That difference matters in narrow US garages and parking entrances. Confirm the actual clearances and door-opening space before delivery.
Finally, sit in the specific seats fitted to the car, with the clothing and footwear you normally use. The Tecnica's appeal comes from how its engine, steering and controls work together. The right example must also fit its driver and the places where that driver will use it.
