The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface asks its owner to enjoy a simple daily interaction: wind it, set the time and turn the case when desired. For a US buyer accustomed to automatic sports watches, that routine can matter as much as the rectangular design.
The blue-dial stainless-steel reference Q716848J provides a useful focus. Its two-hand layout leaves the dial visually quiet, while the reversible case supplies the mechanical interest. Evaluate that combination in person before deciding whether a more complicated Reverso is necessary.
Read rectangular dimensions correctly
Jaeger-LeCoultre's US specification for Q716848J gives a case measuring 40.1 by 24.4 millimeters and 7.56 millimeters thick. The stated length includes the lugs. It uses the manually wound Calibre 822, with a listed 42-hour power reserve and hours-and-minutes display.
Those numbers describe three different aspects of fit. When trying it on, look at where the lugs end, how the case sits across the wrist and whether a normal shirt cuff passes comfortably over it. A single width measurement is an incomplete way to compare it with a round watch.
Ask the retailer to adjust the strap properly before judging the result. Take a moment with your arm relaxed at your side as well as raised in front of a mirror. The view that works for a close-up photograph may not be the view you prefer throughout a working day.
Understand why the case turns
The mechanism has a specific historical purpose. Jaeger-LeCoultre's Reverso history traces the design to the challenge of protecting a watch during polo. The patent application for a case that could slide and turn over was filed in Paris on March 4, 1931.
The Monoface keeps a blank reverse that can be personalized. Before commissioning engraving, decide whether you want the inscription to be private, commemorative or primarily decorative, then review its placement and lettering on an actual-size proof. The uninterrupted metal surface is also a valid choice.
During the handover, have the retailer demonstrate the case's release, rotation and return to its cradle. Follow the instructions for the particular watch. If a pre-owned example resists or fails to sit correctly, request inspection rather than forcing the mechanism.

Decide whether hand-winding fits your week
The manufacturer's care guidance recommends daily winding and instructs owners to stop when resistance is felt. The published reserve leaves some flexibility, but the important purchase question is whether winding feels satisfying or inconvenient to you.
Try operating the crown with the retailer's guidance. If you rotate through several watches, consider whether you are happy to reset this one after it has stopped. Its straightforward display may appeal precisely because there is little information to restore.
Include the strap in the decision
The reference is supplied with a blue calfskin strap, quick-release attachment and a steel double-folding buckle. Check the buckle's position against your wrist, rather than judging the strap by its color alone.
Jaeger-LeCoultre's leather-strap advice recommends avoiding water, excessive humidity, prolonged sun and oily substances. Consider those instructions against your summer travel and everyday activities. Ask about compatible replacement straps and fitting before purchase.
A satisfying Reverso choice combines the rectangular proportions, the turning case and a routine you actually enjoy. The simplest dial can still provide plenty to appreciate.
