A Ferrari Roma coupe makes particular sense to investigate when the planned drive includes a destination, luggage and a passenger. The important evaluation goes beyond whether its shape looks right in a photograph. Seat comfort, everyday controls and the bags you actually carry deserve the same attention as engine specifications. This evergreen guide approaches the Roma as a grand-touring choice.
The design starts with restraint
Ferrari’s designers described the Roma project around clean surfaces, a set-back cabin and a deliberately restrained collection of lines. Their account also explains how the fastback exterior influenced the interior’s available space. That connection is worth keeping in mind: the roofline is part of the packaging decision. Read Ferrari’s interview with the Roma design team.
For a buyer, the lesson is straightforward. Walk around the actual car in daylight, then sit inside it. The experience of seeing over the dashboard, turning toward a junction and reaching behind the seats cannot be settled by a studio image. Ask to try the seat settings before a test drive begins, rather than adjusting your expectations around somebody else’s preferred position.
A coupe with a sporting foundation
Ferrari identifies the Roma as a front-mid-engine 2+ coupe. Its twin-turbo V8 is rated at 620 cv (about 612 hp), and the model uses an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The cabin follows a dual-cockpit theme, with visually distinct spaces for driver and passenger. An active rear spoiler is integrated into the rear-screen area. The details are set out in Ferrari’s original Roma press information.
The 2+ description should prompt a real seating check rather than an assumption about rear-seat usefulness. If carrying someone behind the front occupants is important, evaluate access and available space with those occupants present. If the rear area will mostly hold travel items, check how easily those items can be placed and secured. Your intended use should determine whether the arrangement works.
Build a better grand-touring test drive
Ask for a route that includes the roads you expect to use: a rough urban section, ordinary highway pavement and a safe parking maneuver. Pay attention to seat support after the first few minutes, cabin conversation at legal speeds and visibility when changing lanes. These observations are more relevant to a long weekend than repeating an acceleration statistic.
Bring your phone and try the functions you regularly need while parked. Check navigation entry, audio, calls and climate controls on the particular car. Confirm installed equipment from its build documentation instead of relying on a broad model description. A feature demonstrated on another Roma or a different model year may not settle what this example includes.
Take the luggage test literally
Measure your regular bags and, with permission, try them in the car. Consider the full trip: luggage, jackets, charging cables for personal devices and anything you want within reach. Also check the garage approach and the parking spaces used at home. A short measurement session can answer practical questions that a listing’s cargo-volume number leaves open.
Review condition in the context of use
Ask a qualified specialist to inspect the tires, brakes, underbody and service history, and to demonstrate fitted equipment. Discuss any modifications in writing. A touring-oriented buyer should also ask about roadside support and the service plan for journeys away from home. The Roma’s appeal is personal, but its suitability can be assessed methodically: comfortable occupants, workable luggage, familiar controls and an individual car whose condition has been independently checked.
