A long-range aircraft specification is most useful when its footnotes travel with the headline. The Bombardier Global 7500 illustrates that principle especially well: its published range describes a defined theoretical mission, while its cabin can be configured around very different passenger needs. For a US-based buyer comparing intercontinental capabilities, understanding those conditions is more valuable than drawing the largest possible circle around a departure airport.

Start with the reference mission

Bombardier’s Global 7500 environmental product declaration lists a maximum range of 7,700 nautical miles, approximately 8,861 statute miles. The associated conditions are Mach 0.85, eight passengers, four crew, standard atmospheric conditions and NBAA instrument-flight-rule reserves. The document expressly identifies speed, weather, selected options and other factors as influences on actual range.

This gives buyers a common comparison point. It does not promise that every configured aircraft will cover that distance with every passenger load. When requesting a mission study, provide the actual airports, expected passenger and baggage loads, travel season and preferred schedule. Ask which assumptions differ from the manufacturer’s reference case and how those differences affect the result.

A useful comparison also includes the return leg. Do not accept a favorable analysis in one direction as proof of equivalent capability in the other. Have the operator explain the circumstances that could require a fuel stop, and assess that possibility against the importance of the arrival time.

Do not combine separate maximums

The same Bombardier document lists Mach 0.925 as the aircraft’s top speed. That is a different condition from the Mach 0.85 range calculation. Putting the maximum speed beside the maximum distance in a comparison chart can create an attractive but unsupported picture of a single flight.

Likewise, a published 5,760-foot takeoff distance is tied to sea-level, standard-atmosphere and maximum-takeoff-weight conditions. It is not a universal minimum runway length for a trip. Airport suitability requires the flight crew’s assessment using the approved performance data and the conditions applicable to that operation. Buyers should seek the conclusion and its assumptions rather than try to reconstruct dispatch calculations from a brochure.

Understand what the cabin contributes

Bombardier’s Global 7500 cabin overview describes four living spaces, a kitchen and dedicated crew accommodation. This arrangement makes the interior relevant to range: the capability to remain airborne for a long journey has more practical value when passengers and crew have suitable spaces throughout it.

Ask for the particular aircraft’s configuration, equipment list and loading information. A spacious sleeping arrangement, additional equipment and the luggage carried for an extended trip should all be reflected in the evaluation. Compare the actual outfitted aircraft with the proposed mission instead of assuming that a manufacturer’s cabin illustration is its specification.

Keep historical achievements in their proper place

Bombardier celebrated the model’s entry into service in December 2018. That announcement is useful program history; its contemporary superlatives should not be read as an updated ranking of aircraft in October 2026.

The strongest evaluation ends with a documented mission analysis, a workable cabin and an understanding of the limitations affecting the individual aircraft. Keep those findings together. Range matters because it can simplify a journey, but the meaningful number is the one supported for the passengers, airports and operating conditions that actually apply.
