The first-generation Bentley Continental Supersports makes the most sense when you start with the engineering question behind it: what happens when Bentley removes weight from the Continental GT and gives the remaining car a more focused specification?
For a US buyer, that question is practical. It shifts attention toward the fitted seats, brake hardware, cabin arrangement and originality of the complete package. A Supersports badge should begin the investigation rather than conclude it.
Anchor the search to 2009–2011
Bentley's heritage account of the original Supersports dates its production to 2009–2011 and explains that the project began inside the engineering department as a weight-reduction exercise. The company describes lighter wheels, ceramic brakes and a two-seat cabin with carbon-framed seats contributing to a saving of almost 243 pounds (110 kg).
The same record identifies a twin-turbocharged 5,998 cc W12, a six-speed Quickshift automatic and all-wheel drive. These details distinguish the original model's technical package from other Continental variants.
Keep the later Supersports separate in your search. Bentley's 2017 announcement described another model using the name, including a different performance and engineering specification. Reused names make it worth putting the generation and body style at the top of every inspection request.
Let the seating arrangement lead
Begin with photographs of the actual cabin, including the space behind the front seats. Ask for original build information that establishes how the particular coupe was supplied. Record its seating capacity and present configuration explicitly, then reconcile any difference with the documents.
Sit in the car long enough to understand the seat position and support. Use the adjustments actually fitted. If you expect long highway days, include a representative drive with the seller's permission, rather than deciding from a brief stationary impression.

Check the entry path as well as the final seating position. A low roof and substantial door can make the approach to a seat as relevant as its shape. Try the parking arrangement you expect to use at home, allowing enough room for the door and your body to move comfortably.
Treat lightweight components as inspection items
Have a Bentley-qualified technician identify and assess the fitted brakes using the correct procedures. Photographs can document wheel design and visible condition, but they cannot establish remaining brake service life. Obtain a written explanation of findings and the parts and labor required to address them.
Ask the same specialist to examine wheels, tires, suspension and any evidence of impact or repair. An unusual wheel finish or replacement part deserves a factual explanation. Avoid assuming that a cosmetic difference proves either damage or an upgrade.
Make a separate list of modifications and retained original parts. Seat changes, added trim and replacement equipment can affect how closely the car follows the specification that attracted you in the first place. Their significance depends on your intended use and the quality of the work.
Compare complete purchase plans
A useful comparison includes the asking price, documented inspection findings, overdue maintenance, transport and the work you personally want done. Keep optional appearance changes separate from items the technician considers necessary.
For an interstate purchase, arrange the inspection before scheduling collection. Agree on the documents and loose items to accompany the vehicle, and retain a clear record of the car's condition at handover.
The original Supersports offers a particular interpretation of the Continental idea. Understanding its lightweight brief helps you judge whether an example still delivers the combination you want, and whether its seating and condition suit the journeys you actually intend to make.
