A 2016 Dodge Viper ACR should arrive with an explanation of its current setup. A giant rear wing is easy to photograph; damper settings, ride height and the box of removable equipment require a more deliberate handover. For a US buyer intending to drive home, that distinction belongs in the purchase agreement and inspection plan.

Dodge announced the model on May 8, 2015. The manufacturer’s release specified an 8.4-liter V10, adjustable Bilstein dampers and carbon-ceramic brakes. Its optional Extreme Aero Package added equipment including a dual-element rear wing and additional aerodynamic components. Confirm the exact factory specification before comparing examples.

Establish a road configuration

The factory ACR supplement distinguishes street and track setups. It directs owners to use the street damper positions on public roads and factory ride heights for street driving. It also warns that suspension changes can alter the vehicle’s balance.

Ask an experienced Viper specialist to measure and document the actual setup before collection. Your handover sheet should identify the settings at all four corners, the ride-height measurements and any deviation from the applicable factory instructions. Have the shop explain any modification that prevents a straightforward return to the recommended road configuration.

This is a job for a properly equipped technician, rather than an experiment in the seller’s parking lot. If the car’s current configuration cannot be established, arrange transport and complete the assessment before ordinary road use.

Inventory the loose equipment

The supplement’s post-track checklist calls for restoring street ride heights and damper settings, removing the splitter track extension and, for Extreme Aero cars, removing diffuser extensions and reinstalling specified hood components. The exact checklist should travel with the vehicle.

Request a photographed inventory of the parts, hardware, tools and instructions included in the sale. Identify what is installed, what is boxed and what is missing. Have the inspector assess attachment points and signs of damage, and obtain estimates for any required replacements.

Keep this inventory separate from the vehicle’s build record. One establishes how the car was specified; the other establishes what the seller will actually hand over. Both should be agreed before transport is booked.

Ask useful questions about track use

Request dates, event history where available, maintenance invoices and any setup sheets retained by prior owners. Invite specific answers: which components were serviced, at what mileage, and by which shop? A broad description such as “track prepared” is difficult to evaluate without its supporting work list.

Dodge’s supplement explains that track operation increases wear and requires more frequent servicing. Have the inspecting specialist connect the car’s reported use with the condition of its brakes, tires, suspension and drivetrain. Ask for written findings, including any areas where history is incomplete.

Match collection to your plans

Discuss loading clearance with the transporter using measurements from the actual car. If driving away, have the shop confirm the agreed road setup, tire condition and readiness for the intended route. Keep the first journey conservative while you learn the controls and visibility.

For future circuit use, arrange suitable instruction and event preparation separately. A successful ACR purchase ends with more than keys: it provides a documented configuration, a complete equipment inventory and a clear plan for maintaining the car between road and track.
